As the lone Liberal on this forum I would like to hear your take on how the government shutdown was good for Conservatives and the Republican Party.

  • #2
Ok I'll bite, I don't think the shutdown did anything for either side and come January 2014 we will have to do the whole thing over again....I think what it did show for the Republicans is that there are a few members like Ted Cruz and Rand Paul that have the stones to stand up and say what's going on here is wrong and in the long run will bring down the Nation....

The good ole boys on both sides of the aisle seem to be happy with business as usual and lets don't rock the boat and mess up our chances to get reelected to the club....They are the poster child for term limits because if we keep up the satus quo and keep raising the credit limit and spending the Country into oblivion then someday pretty soon the chickens will come home to roost and we won't be able to borrow our way out of debt and the whole house of cards will fall...

I'm a Libertarian and don't care much for the Republicans in office that don't stand up for what their constituents want in Government and only show up year after year and never get anything solved...The American People deserve a Congress that can come up with a REAL budget that cuts out the fat and delivers a plan with a future of more than a few months and won't cause economic collapse...

This is written in the Constitution and the bunch of idiots we have up there now can't seem to pull their heads out of their hind ends long enough to see a way to accomplish anything....I have long said just put a bunch housewives up there that know how to follow a limited household budget and still get the bills paid on time every time and they could solve the whole mess in a couple weeks

This Country has come down to the gimme mine and more class who vote in Democrats and RINO's that are more than happy to bankrupt America to keep them happy and the "Free" money flowing in order to keep their position of power and influence for 6 more years...I'm glad there are a few young buck "Tea Party" rebels in the Republican party that aren't afraid to stand up and do the job they were elected to do....

Bottom line is this, America takes in 70 cents from taxes for every dollar they spend leaving 30 cents to be borrowed for future generations to somehow pay back...This is not sustainable and will cause economic collapse that our children will have to deal with....Now with Obamacare taking an estimated additional 6% and probably much more from the till we will be forced to borrow even more to pay America's bills....I think we need to sweep clean the entire bunch save for a few that can actually think and start over before it's too late....

+1 on term limits. I'd like to see three two year terms for the House and two four year terms for the Senate.

I wasn't gonna bite but can't help myself.

Anytime you take a group that is screwing stuff up and risking our entire nations future and shut them down to where they can't screw stuff up even for a little while, that's a good thing.

Put on your tinfoil hats boys, someone recently brought up how quickly all those custom pretty shiny new signs they put up at all the National Parks and such. Something that can't happen for 6 months even in an emergency and the signs are in place in 12 hours. Somebody knew it was coming.

Admitting your a liberal even though you aren't the only one is a bold move round these parts. It's like saying you support the poser in chief and think he's doing good things. How can any person with a positive number IQ even joke about something like that.
As long as his eyes are open he's making bad things happen.

Liberals offered NO constructive plans. They acted like the POS spoiled little brat kids they are. They stomped their feet, cried like sluts, and just whimpered until the side of right caved in.

I don't see the government shutdown as being good for anyone the way it was resolved. All both sides did was to kick the can three months down the road and raised the debt ceiling. At seventeen trillion the debt is already way above what we can afford. We're already borrowing two dollars of every five dollars that we spend. It won't have much of an effect on me, but it's going to destroy my children and grandchildren.

The liberals take great pride in how many people that they've made to become dependent on government handouts. Conservatives take pride of how many people that they have helped to become less dependent on government handouts. That in a nut shell is the major difference. Charity is giving of one's self. Tyranny is the government forcing you to give of yourself, but the liberal mind just can't seem to comprehend that fact. Money is power. The more money that the government take from you the stronger they become and the weaker you become. There was a time in your life when everything was given to you and you couldn't wait to get out from under your parents roof. Now you run to the government with open arms and want them to take care of your every need. I got news for you son, Obama ain't your daddy.

Liberalism is a mental disorder. Some people take pride in having that affliction. Some grow out of it. Which type of person will you be?

True, but the ultimate power is the power over someone's health.

              Enter Obamacare...

I applaud Senator Cruz and as a Texas have never been more pleased with a politician I voted for. It takes stones to stand up to the establishment and even though he was elected on the promise of doing everything in his power to stop Obamacare, I wasn't sure he would try as hard as he did.

Now we need 5, 10, 20, or even 40 more just like him.

Cruz and Mike Lee are steadfast conservatives. The entire Republican party should emulate them. I haven't seen either waiver on a single issue.

Healthcare isn't essential. Forty years ago people didn't see a doctor unless they were near death. Now people run to a doctor for a hang nail.

During the shutdown the government laid off 800,000 "non-essential" personnel. Name me one private enterprise that employs 800,000 "non-essential" personnel. The majority of those "non-essential" personnel belong to unions. They are employed by, "We the people". Who do they need union protection from?

I could go on, but I'm starting to become apoplectic. You shouldn't get me started like that.

What's "good" in the short run is not always good in the long run. I imagine that adultery "feels" good in the short run, but from what I've seen as a pastor, I've not seen a lot of good in it in the long run. There's no question the shutdown ended up being better for Democrats than for Republicans in the short run. But I doubt that increasing our debt load is going to do anybody any good in the long run.

BTW, you're not the lone liberal on this MB. There are several others who lean left occasionally. More often than not they keep a low profile, but we accept them. As long as you don't become a troll, we'll accept you. Who knows, you might even learn from us Neanderthals. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself why liberal politicians want to disarm you? Is it to protect you from yourself? How benevolent of them. Chew on that one for awhile.

I claim to be a conservative libertarian although sometimes my republican senate reps make me proud.

We were all betrayed by everyone that voted to pass anything but a temp (6 week) debt ceiling resolution. They all know they are spending us into obvilion and lie to us saying they aren't (and the weak minded believe it.) We are worse off because of those in Washington.

By the way, everybody that is a tax payer (employed or retired) go ahead and write that $150,000 check that equals your share of the national debt.

                        WE'RE BEING ROBBED!!!!!!!

I can't see why it is hard to see why people follow Ovomit and the Democraps. If you were an 8 year old child (about the average intelligence of the American citizen) and your parents were divorced which would you choose to live with. The one who makes you work for what you want, accept responsibility and be truthful or the one who gives you everything you want. Cookies, candy Disneyland, IPads, cell phones etc? All free. No responsibility. I have grandchildren in their early 20's whom I love dearly but they are little more than leaches. (Their parents fault). Guess who they support.

And there lies the problem. Our government was designed by the founding fathers for the purpose of compromise. Densely populated states vs. sparsely populated states. Industrial states vs.agricultural states. Each has different needs. If the industrial state wants a new shipping port they may have to give a farm subsidy to a rural state. Our government was designed to accommodate compromise. The current batch of repubs are single minded boneheads whose idea of compromise is demanding everything and giving nothing. This happened before in history, I think they were called the Whig party.
