I am still trying to understand the unique relationship that the U.S has with Israel. While it seemed very obvious that it was a mutually beneficial relationship at the beginning of Israel's history, I am not so sure it is now nor it needs to be any longer. I am still waiting for the wisdom of this board to give me that "ah ha" moment regarding this question.

Finally, it is safe to say that most of the American Jewry is liberal and supporters of Israel; however, when Obama had tensions with Israel(Netanyahu) and still does, they are surprisingly silent. In fact, the gentiles seems much more vocal about their support of Israel than anyone else.... Why?
I was not talking about our military people in any way. But they can only do what their leadership? will let them. Since Russia attacked Ukraine and we have done nothing to help, our other allies wonder what we will do if they are attacked. Such as China getting very frisky in their area. It has not gotten past them what we have done in Ukraine, Iraq and Afghanistan. If you are watching the news, Japan is rapidly building their military because they don't feel we will keep our promises. We have the greatest military in the world. We told them after WW2 if they would keep their military small we would be there to protect them if the need arises. But as I said---------

Understood. However, the building up of militaries around the world is not solely due to the U.S forces being reduced. We have to take into account that economic times are tough globally. With this, armies grow as unemployed young men look for ways to be productive and governments want unemployment figures to drop. Putting young men into the military institution serves both sides of the problem.

I follow you. It's not just us, the whole world is in a mess. When things have happened in the past the US always stood up and took the lead. Now, nobody seems willing to do it. Looks like Hitlery hitting the reset button with Putin didn't work all that well.

Make no mistake, there is a sheet storm just around every corner and, like you, I question if our current political structure is comprehending the full potential of same.

What is our relationship with Israel? Do we need each other? If so why? Deadeye's biblical references aside. Keep it political.
Israel is the only democracy in the middle east and they are our strongest ally. There is also a substantial Jewish presence in the United States that we wouldn't want to alienate. Finally we support Israel because it is in our best national interest to support Israel.

Nice catch. I listen to Dennis Prager's radio broadcasts quite often. It's a shame that his show is on during the same time slot that Rush occupies. Another conservative talk show host well worth listening to is Bill Bennett.

Because Kahrtalk is an equally sided, bipartisan gun forum with a political sub forum out there. I offer this point of view for your consideration.

The content of link I posted is dramatically opposite of yours. In a nutshell.......it says that there will never be peace as long as the Palestinians are treated as the blacks were in South Africa during Apartheid. In short you can never force someone to like you and by oppressing the Palestinians, it only creates more hatred toward their oppressors which perpetuates the vicious cycle that we have now. While this logically makes sense, I do not see how this situation will ever be resolved. Furthermore, I will say this again, in light of the link you posted......American Jewry is predominately liberal, I can never understand why that is and how the support for Obama was garnered.. Please consider this vid with Milton Friedman.
