OK..Main thing, I never insisted anyone here wasn't allowed to speak...Number two, again, I never called or accused anyone of being a racist, I said some comments had racist overtones. And if I said something that was, I would expect to be called out on it. If we aren't being "politically correct" here, then I should be able to say or comment as I wish, as well as others. Here's what cracks me up. We all see a few minutes of video or a couple of news reports on someone/something, and just by those reports alone, we label someone a thug. None of us here know any of these people, and if someone here does, please speak up. And how do you know the guy that shot the cop wasn't a thug??? Because a few people get on the news and say so???? We are all old enough to know that during the Civil Rights Era, fire hoses were used against people. So to say we should turn hoses on people in Ferguson, in my opinion was wrong. Also a few seemed to think the Garner decision meant that there were going to be more riots, and low and behold there wasn't. So if I don't agree with something that is said, I will address it, as well I expect the same to what I say. So if that means I'm @#$%^& sensitive, then so be it!!! There is GOOD and BAD on BOTH sides!!

That should be interesting.Originally posted by swilcher7 View PostSo if I don't agree with something that is said, I will address it, as well I expect the same to what I say.
I'll start: What does racist overtones mean? It appears you use that lexicon a lot. To me it is a nice way of saying "racist". After all, if I take a piece of poop and put it on bread, then add a piece of turkey, do I call that a sheet sandwich or a turkey sandwich? What would you call it? If it isn't a turkey sandwich to you, then perhaps you are painting with the same brush you are accusing others of using?I am the Living Man

I would suggest that if your so upset about racial overtones, you may want to go over to the Glock forum, where they have such interesting discussions about the worlds greatest firearm. That's what is so great about this country............don't like something you read, turn it off, don't read it. I personally think that our current POTUS and his wife are banana eaters............now, because of my medication I take for blood pressure, I eat a banana every morning for breakfast, to get my potassium for the day...............does that make me a racist? Racial overtone? You must have really vivid dreams at night............................................b y the way, my wife and I have friends who are black, gay, Japanese, Serbian etc. This political correctness stuff.................well, to quote someone......................I just threw up a bit in my mouth.......................call me anything you want, just don't call me late for supper........................Originally posted by swilcher7 View PostOK..Main thing, I never insisted anyone here wasn't allowed to speak...Number two, again, I never called or accused anyone of being a racist, I said some comments had racist overtones. Before I close this thread since I think the horse is rode down and we're just creating a mud bog I feel compelled to share a few of my Missouri stories that are relevant to this discussion.
Actually two stories but I'll try to be brief.
One of my fondest memories in my youth probably age 6 or 7 was vaccinating hogs or pigs as they were called when little at my grandfathers farm. There were usually 6 or 7 men, the vet and his helper a colored man whose name sadly I can't recall or I may never have known now that I ponder but he was my pal.
The men would grab a pig by the front legs, drag it to the vet who had a bunch of needles slug over his neck on strings, he'd give them a shot under his arm pit or leg pit, my job was to take a big red marker and put a line down the pigs back so he didnt get shot twice. I also checked as each one was brought up to make sure there was no mark. The vets fingers were all calloused and looked rough. I asked about it and he said he sometimes ran the needles through his finger before they got to the pig. Said he never got sick though, funny guy.
Anyhow in that area there was no thought given to black versus white, people were just happy to have a job and be able to work. My read at the time was the colored people accepted their lot and wanted to improve just like everybody else. I had so much fun with that guy. He was extremely respectful to even me as a kid as I was to him even though I don't think he expected it or even gave it thought.
I'm sure he's long gone now, if he is still around I'd sure love to visit with him and see if he remembers those days.
The second story similar to the first was harvest time and this is long long before my time so no first hand info but I've heard it a 100 times.
During harvest with most of the work being done by hand in those days, farmers would get together and work each others fields. Do your field today and my field tomorrow and so on.
There were many guys both black and white. Incidentally and with no disrespect and they didn't resent it in the least, the black guys were referred to as darkies. It was like calling someone Irish or Dutch, not disrespectful or anything.
Well in those days the darkies didn't eat with the white guys. A meal was prepared and the farmers and white helpers would eat inside. The darkies would sit on the back porch and basically get anything that was left.........
Well my grandmother would have none of that. When they came to their farm the darkies would still sit on the back porch but she prepared the same meal for them and served them at the same time.
And then horror of horrors there was a colored gal that helped cook, wash dishes and such, who usually got the same treatment, eating on the back porch after everyone else went back to work.
My grandma would have her sit at the table with her to have their own lunch, they called the noon meal dinner, usually eating leftovers from the mens meal.....she was totally out of the box compared to the rest.
Grandma told me many times that the helper was shocked that she was helping with dishes and cleanup, grandma figured she was a helper and if she did it all by herself that ain't helping, that's doing the whole job.
So I guess in summary in those days there was mutual if not completely fair respect for one another, and more importantly I come from a long line of non racist. If anything it's more difficult today to stay that way than it's ever been before.
I'll leave this open for a comment or two, make em good cause this ones headed for the land of old worn out threads soon.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

After my father passed away, my wife and I did some family tree digging, along with info from relatives.........................imagine my surprise when I found out that I was related to Himmler. If you don't know who he is, look it up. I have been called a kraut more than once in my life, and worse. People are just too sensitive these days. What happened in the past with many races is terrible, but to keep bringing the subject up, just fuels the fire. There will always be people who for whatever reason, dislike someone, for many different reasons. People have a right to think anything about anyone. If we, as a society, would just learn to use some tact, and think before we speak, things would be a bit better. Quit blaming each other for the worlds problems. If the whiners would expend as much energy trying to make the world a better place, as they do whining about every little statement someone makes, we'd be better off. Call it like it is. Personally, I don't see much difference in the word thug, fool, idiot, crook, perp, etc. They are all expletives for a person that is a useless part of society. So be it. You are what you do.

For my own closure and before the thread closes, I'll just share my POV on race as I shared it with a good member here recently:
"...Here's my personal, limited view of of the race issue: I held open the door for a black lady today. She looked me in the eyes, smiled and said "Thank you". That's all I need. I smiled back. This is not just me making a point. This really happened this morning and it happens a lot because I hold open the door for everybody."O|||||||O

Not gonna go to the Glock forum, no interest in doing go. No vivid dreams at night, because I rarely get any sleep due to pain from my spinal fusion. Maybe if some of you guys were in my shoes and had people call you those names, along with others, you could see where I'm coming from. Here is a what if: if I were to start calling folks a certain name that starts with a "C", what would that mean?? With the exception of being used to name a certain type of saltine, the term in my eyes is a racist term. And in no way would I say that to anyone here. These posts seem to go on with things being said without opposition. But when the opposition starts, look out.. So again to all you that have a problem with me speaking out, and I'm not trying to be smart here, but it is what it is. I will do so in the same way I have been doing. If anyone feels like I have disrespected them, I apologize for that, not my intention!! You can say as you please, but if I disagree with it, I will speak out. That's what great about this country as you say!! I read a post on thefiringline.com last evening where a new member was asking about an issue with his KAHR. He then asked why there were Asian women in the catalog, as well as things like "there probably aren't any Americans working in the factory." And he got a very quick and stern history lesson on KAHR. Then one of the mods laid down the law and stated comments like that were not tolerated, and if they continue, the individual would be banned...Kudos to him. I myself have said things that were wrong, was called out on it, and was big enough to see I was wrong and apologize for my actions. Everyone has their own views, as well they should. And telling me you have friends that our other races doesn't really amount to anything..My best friend through childhood and growing up is white, doesn't mean a thing. I don't care what color you are, if you're a good person, that should and doesn't matter.Originally posted by berettabone View PostI would suggest that if your so upset about racial overtones, you may want to go over to the Glock forum, where they have such interesting discussions about the worlds greatest firearm. I decided to finally add my two cents worth.
I work for a company that has mandatory annual "cultural diversity" training. Every year we have to sit through a day of training pointing out the differences between the people in the workplace. But it concludes by preaching that the differences shouldn't matter! The irony hits me like a slap in the face each year - how are we supposed to learn to look past the differences if they are constantly brought to our attention?

Some of us are not only old enough to know that, but old enough to have gotten hosed. The idea that the Ferguson rioters and looters are analogous to the civil rights marchers is not respectful to those who risked a lot for real justice.Originally posted by swilcher7 View PostWe are all old enough to know that during the Civil Rights Era, fire hoses were used against people. Just friendly advice - don't take it the wrong way, but this place has almost an Army barracks feel to it. If you're sensitive, your feelings won't just get hurt, they'll get trampled.Originally posted by swilcher7 View PostSo if that means I'm @#$%^& sensitive, then so be it!!!

My my my.... A cop gets murdered in his patrol car and look at where we are.
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
I look at the floor and I see it needs sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
I don't know why nobody told you
How to unfold your love
I don't know how someone controlled you
They bought and sold you
I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps

In no way shape or form am I condoning what happened in Ferguson. And the last thing I would do is show any disrespect to anyone, black or white, who suffered in those times. My point was folks had hoses turned on them because of their color and what they stood for in Selma, etc. To say we should turn hoses on ANYONE is wrong in any sense. But to destroy your own hometown with rioting, looting, etc because you don't agree with something is asinine...My feelings aren't hurt, and if they do get hurt, I'll get over it.Originally posted by SlowBurn View PostSome of us are not only old enough to know that, but old enough to have gotten hosed.
