  • Behold, CoCo, the great lizard huntress!

My dogs absolutely love to hunt lizards. They almost never catch any, but they love to hunt them all the same. Well today, they found one on way too open ground. It was quite a chase until the lizard made the mistake of trying to hide in a hole that was not deep enough. Coco dug until she flushed the lizard and Jack, my other dog, chased it right back to her.

Don't some of them lizards bite back tough.

Is a Gila Monster a lizard. You got some critters down there that do bad things.

Good for the dogs though, I can see the joy on her face.

      • Well, we're getting liquid "sunshine" again here in NE Florida. I like the positve things about that... less danger of forest fires and not having to water!

Yesterday I dug out the table saw and other power tools and spent the afternoon building some display racks for the gun show this weekend. I was able to get everything done and Wifey was fine with a late dinner... lamb chops, saffron rice and green peas... sat down around 9:30 PM and then watched our favorite TV shows... Dexter and then Donovan. It was 25 minutes after midnight when we finished watching Donovan!

I didn't take pictures of my shotgun display rack, but here's my ammo display shelf. I used small poplar boards and "designed" it on the fly, using what I had on hand in the way of screws... quite a mix of stainless and galvanized deck screws. I'm not a carpenter, but I did a trial run on loading it up for display on our dining table over its legs. Nothing collapsed, but it takes a while to get all of the stuff displayed.

None of my ammo came from Walmart or even locally. I ran it down online and tried to get the best deals in pricing, no tax, and shipping. I even added some from my own stock. My prices will be the lowest at the show and I have quite a bit of money tied up... and a big VISA bill to pay off again!

If I can sell all of this and my redundant guns, I may "retire" from selling at the local gun shows. It's fun, but when ammo and magazine stocks start normalizing, the real profits will fall drastically and volume sales with low margins will come back. I look forward to that! But for now, I have bought a lot of stuff for resale to show along with my redundant firearms. I even got a credit card reader for my smartphone so that I can accommodate those who don't carry much cash... lost only a few sales because I couldn't accept credit cards.

This is a risky endeavor and I have over $700 more in Glock magazines coming in today. I even bought a few .357 Sig mags because the price was right. That's really the first instance of my buying stuff that I can't use.

Anyhow, it will be quite an endeavor to get our ONE table set up before opening this Saturday morning. The show will be at the Prime Osborn Convention Center here in Jacksonville. I need to take some pictures of our table this time.

          • not wishing you any bad luck or anything, but I long for the day when those that scarfed up ammunition and accessories at retail shelf prices in order to profit from scarcity .... begin to lose their butts

            • That's my wish, too, but I didn't scarf any from local shelves or suppliers. I've spent a lot of time searching for stuff online and paying $33 to $60 a brick of .22LR... or more... plus shipping. My pricing will be the lowest at the show and if I charged any less, others would scarf it up for resale.

Most people only want a few boxes and you can imagine that's not economical when buying stuff online. One brick or four cost about $17 for shipping, so I only buy when I can get enough stuff to spread the shipping costs over more items. Cabela's has very low limits on items and adding $17 for a single box of ammo, even if it's 300 or so in the box, is not a good deal. It's hard to find .22LR at less than 10 cents a round... AND in the limited quantity to make it worthwhile after shipping is added to the cost. Most people can't camp out at Walmart and wait for the "normal-priced" stuff to arrive... which is all too rare.

.22 LR is the biggest seller and amassing the 17 or so bricks pictured has taken quite a while. Gunbot was quite helpful. I used to check 20 or so online sites several times a day... to no avail. I did beat Gunbot a time or two finding stuff, but finally just started using that and checking more often. I do get emails from some suppliers, but have to ignore those as I'm not interested in cases of 9mm FMJ for $700 or more! My last purchase was two cases of Blazer Brass 124-gr FMJ for $690 including insurance and free shipping... $340 a case... or about $120 more than I used to pay for 9mm FMJ shipped to the door! I'll probably ask $22-$23 a box for small purchases.

                • I've only got mine at Wal-mart. I show up about 6:30-7am and there might be someone else there waiting. I get what I want and leave. The shelf in my ammo cabinet is starting to bow. Sometimes I go in the afternoon or evening. I get odd types of 22 some of the time.

Mutt They were shelter dogs; supposedly both are Lab-mix. I see some APBT in both, especially CoCo.

                            • Hmm, thinking a corner marker for a claim. Dogs must have tough pads to walk through that sharp rock - looks like a slag field. It's nice to see fine animals so fit instead of sloppy baggy from too much grub. Fine appearing Native American also looking fit.

                              • Went to the range on Saturday with the Ruger Single Six and the Wather P22. First time to the range since the incident! Kind of weird as the place was not full like it usually is on a Saturday or Sunday. I guess ammo is still scarce for some people. However, the guy next to me must have put about 400 rounds through a Bersa 380 then proceeded to put about 200 rounds through an XDM(?).

Let a guy and his son shoot the Single Six. Son was a bit hesitant, but the Dad liked it.

Anyway, I know that I can at least still shoot these two 22s reasonably well.
