    • I broke form of late and have been checkering a few knife handles. Figured I might as well post them for show and tell, ridicule, harsh judgement and criticism.

Just finished the larger of these two today. Wanted to make them match.

Did 3 others for other folks. Couple wood and a couple horn handle.

      One skiplined and one regular.

And a set of skip lined grips to match for the guy with the skip lined horn handle.

Dayum! I am fresh out of ridicule and harsh judgement.

So, I will have to stick to honest criticism . . .

          I like them. A lot!
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

            LOL! Both!

As a knife maker I can really appreciate those handles. What type of blades are those. They look to be of Nepal influence.

            • Correct, they are straight from Nepal via Himalayan imports. Thanks to another moderator here who is also much wiser than I he gave me some bad influence along with a khukri and I'm now also a khukri addict.

The little one is actually unofficially being called the bawanna bowie. Officially I think it's call a Micro Mini AK Bowie. I got the larger one and got to thinking if I could shrink it down to 7 inches or so it'd make a fine belt knife. I mentioned to the nice lady who runs HI and she had some made up. I love it.

                • Hey Bawanna, I'm truly impressed!! Nice work.

How do you keep your eyes from getting squirrelly when you do such close work?
When I do close work it takes my eyes an hour to straighten out.

                  • Ha! I clearly remember the days when I could checker with my nekkid eye. Now I wear reading glasses and an opti visor and still get cross eyed.

Probably from trying to checker with the nekkid eye?

Or maybe it was just timing. I know right about the 40 mark things started going to pot on me.

The eyes and the neck, usually the neck causes more breaks. I raised the work area so I'm no hunched over. Somedays I can go all day, used to go day and night before I went back to work and had to be someplace daily.

Hell to get old I guess.

                        • I imagine that using an opti visor would be better than a magnifier on a stand, because with the magnifier you would be glancing back and forth from your field of work and your eyes would have to adjusts every time. The visor would be in your field of view all the time.
BUT it would mess up my hair!!! LOL

                          Comment

                          • Hair is becoming less and less of an issue with me anymore. The opti visor is the ticket. I can position it so I can look under it to grab another tool etc. I also had a little TV, don't work as a TV but it plays video's.
When I find myself waking up with my face in the sawdust I plug in a movie. It hurts production some since I end up watching the movie but at least I don't nap with my face in the dust.

                              • Man, Bawanna I sure do wish I'd have bought a model you could make me some grips. Your grips are gorgeous. Hey, I just had a bunch of timber cut and the stumps pushed up. A lot were maple , wild cherry, and some ash. Well and lot of pine but I don't reckon those are worth anything. Would the stumps have any cool looking grains in them or is it just burls I should look for. Gonna have to do it soon I've got to burn the brush piles to plant grass.
