I did kind of notice but that's a better shot. Still trying to figure out exactly what the heck he did.

Guys good, that's for sure. Changed the slide set up on the front and cut away all the outer stuff on the back.

      Really cool.

He passed away some years ago, one of the GIANT names in knife making (big following in Japan of all places).
There are some scans from magazine articles in this thread that details some of his dabbling into firearms: https://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=442166

          Kadet kit:
Does your firing pin have a circular or chisel shaped tip? I believe the chisel shaped tip was an upgrade/fix. If yours isn't you might give CZ a call about replacement.

Even with the upgraded pin, I was having failures to fire with my Kadet kit. At first, as the hits on fired cases looked pretty much the same as the ones that failed to fire, I chalked it up to the Federal bulk pack ammo I was using. However, the problem persisted with CCI and Federal Champion. Everything on the pistol looked good; no burs, bends, dirt and good pin protrusion from the breech face). I thought about a heavier mainspring, but didn't want to mess up the trigger pull (never had a problem with the 9mm top end). So, I modified the firing pin to let a little more protrude (you have to be careful here as too much firing pin protrusion and it would hit the chamber face if dry fired), but the results were the same. I got to wondering if the chisel tip of the firing pin was the culprit. My first thought was that the surface area was not large enough, but now I wonder if the problem was that it wasn't finished squarely (or flat enough); so that a slight angle on the tip allowed most of the energy from the hit to be dissipated on the outer edge of the case. I took the tip down some making sure it was flat; this also increased the surface area. I then checked and compensated for the slight length reduction of the pin (see below). Whatever the reason for the FTFs before, the pistol has been pretty much flawless with all ammo since this modification to the firing pin.
Modified firing pin hit on the right:

If you remove material from the shoulder indicated in red you will increase how far the pin protrudes from the breech face. Removing it from the opposite shoulder will increase how far it protrudes from the firing pin stop.

          Greg
Now I have another little project to do, thanks!

I have the crosshair reticle. Haven't wrung it out at the range yer, still getting used to the sight picture. It should work well with "silver vision" and in less than ideal lighting conditions that make iron sights almost invisible to me.

Red dots are nice, but I don't want a battery-powered gun.

I'm digging them all. I've an appreciation for CZ rifles. The Henry and Ruger Mini are nice, as are the two Ruger gats, but I'm really digging the old Winchester pump and the Iver Johnson. Thanks for coming up with those
I like the older, smaller .22s like your IJ (which looks to be in excellent shape). There is hardly anything in that size now, though I guess a .22 J frame is close. I have an H&R 922 that I keep in my range bag (stoked with Stingers); it fits nicely in an inside pocket.

^^^ thanks Greg. I saw one of those H&Rs in 22 magnum but I got caught up in negotiating price and didn't buy it. I'm kicking myself over that one. Live and learn.

Have been plinking with my Single Six so much over its 57 years, the blue has plumb wore off the grip frame:

No photos but my .22 plinker is a Walther PPK/s .22. it's been a very reliable & fun shooter as long as I use quality high velocity ammo..

My MKII likes good ammo also. Have an older Marlin 22 auto that is the best value 22 I've ever had!

My very first plinker. Still have it though I seldom shoot it anymore. Bought in the early '60s, cost about $11. Single shot Ithaca model 49 Saddle Carbine. I learned on this one. The cat was being shy on photo day.

Judging by today's left wing, looks like Senator Joe McCarthy was right after all.

Of course the usual Ruger 10/22's but the S&W 22A is a favorite. My newest is a S&W victory 22. It is a great target pistol with outstanding sites. Really enjoy plinking with that one!
