Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

    • Yum

Yum, daddy like! Daddy likes them a lot!! Those Buckeye Burl are fantastic, uncle B, definitely leave them as is. And please do save some of that Buckeye Burl for your favorite non-leech nephew (no offense meant, JFootin).

Great job, once again, it's obvious and you don't need me to confirm that - I think you have found your true calling. Now all you need is to find a whole slew of administrators to run your new up and coming wood whittling business. I think jocko could be CEO, auntie can be CFO and I can be in charge of shipping and handling.

      • I like it cept it's kind of like work here, 27 chiefs and 1 Indian, (Me). I still like it. I'll start looking for a manufacturing head quarters with lots of office space and a little shed for me to work in.

I think it'll work out just fine. I do insist on a window to look out if that ain't too much trouble.

Doubt we'll ever be rich but we'll have a good time and play the part.

        Does that make us posers?

I'll get a couple more hunks of that buckeye I hope while the guy still has some, I love that stuff. Got a few hunks of other stuff to whittle that I think is gonna look pretty good too.

PS- You need to work on your confidence, I'm penciling you in for Executive Vice President. One thing I've learned, never start at the bottom and work up, I've done that all along, doesn't work. BS your way into the top and work your way down. Gravity is your friend.

            • Well today was the hottest day of the year and also SeaFair Sunday. It was hot yesterday too, I like it warm but it was to darn hot to do anything so I sat in front of a fan and whittled grips.

First I took the last set of Buckeye Burl off the Ruger and put them on the Desert Eagle to see what they looked like on a blued gun. I kind of like it.

Then I started on some Box Elder Burl that was stabilized but no color added, you may recall those first sets of stabilized grips were box elder but had color injected. These are very blonde which some don't care for, I'm kind of partial to it, almost like ivory.

I have the first pass of checkering on one side (left) and haven't started the right side. The checkering is nearly invisible, the colors and grain just show right through. Slightly slower in checkering since it's semi hard but it cuts real clean and should turn out nice.

MIxed in with all this I took the wood off my Mares Leg and refinished it. Got some dings during the storm. I rounded off a few sharp corners and refined it a bit. I was disappointed but not surprised to find Birch under the walnut stain. Good and strong but difficult to make look good. Nearly ready to go back together, but time to go wrestle the pillow and get ready for the sweat shop tomorrow.

Anyhow that's what I done this weekend, hope you had a good one.

              • Productivity

Well, looks like someone has been productive this weekend! Oh yeah, it gets soooooooo hot and humid up there in rain country. Boo hoo.

That Buckeye Burl still looks fantastic on the DE. I think that Buckeye Burl would look good on just about anything! Nice work, proceed to enjoy your pillow time and the sweat shop this week. Make sure to tell the admin ladies that all day long that I said hello.

Funny you should mention Dietrich, he's been dwelling in my mind quite a bit of late. I think I was profoundly impacted by that man as I think many of us were.

                      • Got a new truck for Bawanna Grips today. A friend had a booth at a tractor show close to home. Hadn't seen him in a long time. He's built a bunch of incredible ship models usually about 3 foot long, all kinds of boats. He built a replica of John Waynes boat the Blue Goose, but I digress. He built this little truck and it just sucked my right in. The detail is amazing just like his boats which had motors and ran by remote control. Stay on track dude............

Anyhow here she is, along with a set of Box Elder I just finished up today.

Little tight in the cab but a piece of cake to park and incredible gas mileage.

                        • Nice, I have a relation that makes toys like that. He gets a whole lot of money for his toys, so I can't show some unless I go over to my uncle's house. But that's good stuff.

                            • Well for the first time in a long spell I feel like I accomplished something.

I decided to shape and fit several grips so that I can checker etc whenever I have a little time. Shaping and fitting usually makes a big mess, where as checkering while very time consuming I can stay relatively clean.

Largest surplus of grips I've ever had. For your review.

Some Buckeye Burl, these might end up on one of my nekkid guns but if someone wants em bad enough I'll be ordering more so I could probably give em up.

Oldest son's birthday today so probably a short day today with some beverage and a nice meal after a bit. Not a bad thing.
