Well if you would have read his question, it pertained to me being attacked by a person with his fists, not a weapon. So every situation out there doesn't always warrant using a firearm, or "kill or be killed" as you say. And I also said if a weapon was drawn, then you have to take the appropriate action. Use a little common sense if that is possible. If your are in imminent danger, then do what you have to do. As an EXAMPLE::: If I choose to get into a fist fight with someone and he beats my ass, I can't turn around and shoot him for that. Say if he pulls a knife, then game on. This "kill or be killed" mentality can get your behind locked up for along time if it's not warranted. Again, each state has it's own laws, like it or not.

without quoting a post before your reply, I am not sure who you are referring to. But the take away I got from you is that fists will cause you to at least draw your weapon. Many anti gunners I have spoke with say that is not necessary. Fists are not enough to contemplate deadly force. I say these people haven't had the sheet kicked out of them, or a close friend or family member, ever in their life.

Sorry about that. I was responding to Muggsy's response. The question was directed to me and asked if I was attacked by a person with his fists, would I draw my weapon. I said I would, at low ready, and warn said person. If I would have been a willing participant in a fight with my fists and lost, no way. That's what I meant when saying not every situation is kill or be killed. I'm not trying to get into a battle over what the right or left would or is going to do. Every situation is different. I tend to look at things differently because of my background. And if I shoot someone because his got the best of me and no other weapon was found to be involved, the I have to "pay the piper" so to speak.

Just to chime in on the fight scenario, I would draw and warn as well.

            1. Getting into a fist fight while carrying a gun is just plain stupid.

            2. How many fights end when one person goes down? Too many are followed up at that point with kicks/stomps.

            3. If you go down and your gun becomes exposed, what is keeping the other guy from taking it... or using it on you?

            4. If you are willing to commit a felony assault to hurt me, I'm willing to exercise my right to defend myself... and I guarantee a .40 hollow point packs more punch than a bare fist.

Understood. BUT I think many people here think that carrying is the ultimate self defense solution.....it isn't. In my training I was lined up against a 20 something unarmed kid. He had skills but even when he tried to slow things down during a mock attack drill. I had all I could do to deploy my weapon. Stuff happens fast. If you can deploy from cover and warn your attacker, so much the better. I strongly urge people to "play fight" sometime for training instead of going to the range. You will be surprised how things go.

I agree on your points here. But I never said I would get into a fist fight while carrying, I know better than that. The whole scenario started as an assault on me, not a agreed upon fight, during an argument. An assault is one thing, two persons fist fighting is different. Trying to show the difference here. PA is an open carry state, but I always carry concealed. And if someone s trying to take your gun, then by all means do what you have to do. I also said every situation is different. I also mentioned using "verbal judo." I don't go looking for trouble, but again, it was a question asked of me. I am by no means saying that is what you should do. I can say I will do this or that, but when the situation arises, who knows what may happen.
