Another day at the bench.
Been wanting to try a knife rehandle. Greg sent me up a handleless Barong, traditional knife in the Phillipines.
After about a month of head scratching, research, and what if's and what for's I went for it. This is what I came up with. Still a little spit and polish needed but the day is almost done and back to the sweat shop tomorrow.
The beginning.

The after.

Kind of hour glassed for comfort, some say the framed photo might have been a model.

Tried to mimic some of the hooks I saw on the internet, not sure how close I came but I'm ok with it.

Weak hand, couldn't work the camera with my left.

Stable mates until I send this back to Greg.

That said, the blade was meant for you and I'd very much like for you to keep it in your collection (BTW, that Trisuli Ghaule is a beaut).

Your call Greg, I figured if it turned out decent I'd send it back. I got a good start on an edge on it too. I used to be able to sharpen a knife pretty good but seem to have lost the knack. It's coming along though.Originally posted by gb6491 View Post
Many of the Barongs I've seen were pretty ornate in the handle, I might add a little more bling to this thing. The handle does feel pretty nice in my hand too.
I got the sheath to work semi good too. Just was tight. I hosed it down with Ballistol (good stuff, just got some for the first time) inside and it seemed to help it. I think it was tight from the beginning, cracks kind of have to open to allow the blade to go in and out.
I love that Trisuli Ghaule, I haven't used it for anything yet but it feels good in hand. I don't know how you can tell what models they are, there's so many I have to keep them wrote down to remember what I got.
That pen knife just might get a new handle now that I've had my baptism.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

Such beautiful work! Got thru the first 27 pages and just couldn`t wait any longer, had to skip towards the end to see some of the latest. I WANT, I WANT! now let`s see; a new 1911? nope no money for that now, how `bout a set for my new model blackhawk, certainly a good possibility. OR maybe some way to put a set on the cw45????
Only problem now is what wood, burled maple perhaps, checkered or smooth, inlay or not,(my dad was a navy man back in wwII). so many things to think about!
somebody pick me up from the floor, my head is spinning. In memory of great-grammy; never understood a word she yelled in polish, but we all knew what she meant.

Hi Bawanna.
Well I've been through all 79 pages here but I didn't see what I need done. I going to start customizing an RIA wide body frame for a dedicated lower for a Mech Tech CCU. Their wide body looks like a Para Ordnance frame but with a difference. The grip screw placement is a little further apart so folks are opening up the lower holes . Have you tried doing grips for a Para P14 before ?
Here's what I intend to do with the frame, and a set of grips that were made for me by another grip maker.

Actually the Para P14 45 LDA is what kicked off the whole grip saga of my life. I wanted a set and Eagle grips made a set but they had a ambi safety or something, a cut that didn't belong on mine.
I spoke with the owner and he was gonna make a set and send them for free for my evaluation but he never got around to it.
So I decided to try it myself. They are tough, getting that radius at the rear and everything fitting properly. Similar as a Beretta 92/96 which I've done dozens of.
I'd be hard pressed to improve on that set you got, they look fantastic and I love the way they left the little piece on the back to match the bottom of the thumb safety. They look great.
I need to break mine out, it's been neglected for quite a long time, they have all been neglected for far too long. I know I'd be a new man if I just went out and did some blasting.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

The two rear ears in the rear that fill in the trigger's stirrup channel seem to be the thing no one wants to touch. They are fragile.Originally posted by Bawanna View PostActually the Para P14 45 LDA is what kicked off the whole grip saga of my life. Ohhh well ! Looks like I'll have to spend money for a ill fitting set and elongate the holes.

That isn't your set of grips? Your wanting another set.
Seeing that last photo I can see where those would be very fragile. Probably why I had a hard time finding any when I wanted some too.
I have one of my first attempts here at my desk out of Epay or Ironwood and they are so thin I can see through them held up to a light.
I think some stabilized wood would almost be a must in order to have a better chance of them not breaking.
I said they were tough, I sure didn't mean to imply I wouldn't make an attempt.
I work with violets, I deal with challenges every waking moment of every waking day. I'm looking into a job sucking out septic tanks with a straw, I think it might be a good career move. No violets.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

I'm sorry for the confusion. Those are my grips on my Para P14. I don't need another set for it.Originally posted by Bawanna View PostThat isn't your set of grips? Your wanting another set.

I'm going to need a set for a RIA wide body frame that I'm thinking of customizing. Everything for that one is the same dimensions as the Para P14, except for the grip screw holes which are further apart. I was told because of the close copy to the Para frame, RIA changed the hole locations. When and if I get the RIA frame I can send you its grip panels to copy.
I did misunderstand you. I thought you didn't want to try making panels for a possibly one time only RIA hi cap frame.
Duh ! Keep out of the septic tanks, the fumes will fry your brain.

I'm sure the serial number is on the frame but if not I'd much rather have the frame than grips. Much easier to build to fit rather than try to match a grip.
If it's really the same as a P14 we might be able to do it.
Mine being an LDA doesn't have those little ears on the back, that might be a challenge with only a grip for a model.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!
