    • Pau Ferro shouldn't be difficult to work with. What do you want me to do to it or you just comparing woods.

I haven't played with it very much but it is hard enough and a lot of places make grips out of it. Looks very nice although it can vary from beautiful to pretty plain too, like most other woods.

      • If I win it, we will discuss particulars! Those are the actual grips I'm bidding on.

        • You've got a real talent there Bawanna. I do a lot of varied types of wood work myself. Built cabinets, canoe, recurve bows, violins, fireplace mantels, etc, etc... Your grip work is Excellent stuff. A real talent.

As I recall you wanted to discuss some auction grips over at the other place too. We never done that unless I forgot which could happen.

I ain't calling you out as a liar or nothing like that though, you gotta take my word on that.

I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for? Sorry. Are the pins similar to last year?

Probably something dark, not a lot of contrast but some nice grain pattern.
I might have some rosewood I just got yesterday that might fill the bill nicely.

Send some pics of the pins, maybe wait till you win those Pau Ferro grips and send the pins and those all at once, we'll cheat the postman out of a second trip.

And we're talking 1911 again for sure?

                  • Colonel can you make grips for the newer Mk's yet or just the older ones?
Focus on your front sight..... The rest should be blurry!

The short answer to that question is I don't know. I thought I had it all sorted out, defining the new and the old. The GA early and the GC later. But I've made grips on my GA and they didn't fit someones elses GA?
The set I did modified for nimbadew which was a GC which made me all excited since he offered to loan it to me to make a bunch for folks here fit my GA perfectly.
So there's some variance that isn't based on serial number.

I'd really like to get a solid for sure solution. I know there are many here that want grips for both the K and the MK. I'd sure like to fix them all up.

I'll have to look at the slip, already forgot what it's called. 32 bucks a board foot!

They had a large piece of ebony not completely useable due to sap wood and a few cracks. roughly 2 1/2' by maybe 7" average. They sell it by the pound.

It was 186 bucks. I wanted it but not that bad, so I left it.

Need to scout out another wood supplier.
That was the pic that I liked the best! I am drooling right now and I know that you will carve all the unnecessary wood to get the asome grips with a craftsman excellency and haste.

                        • Mine is older made in march of 04 with an HA SN#. I'd like to get some grips for mine soon but unsure if they would work.

We do need to talk Bawanna, I have an NYPD K9 and two nice blocks of stabilized Amboyna burl cut to K9 sized blocks.

They await your whittlers touch. I'd send the gun along for fitting, if it can be legally done.
                            I'm no FFL though...
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                            "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
                            "more stuff than you are"

I've checked into just that and using an FFL would be difficult. They tell me that they would have to received it, log it in, then transfer it to me, then take it back log it back in and transfer it back to you.

I have had folks send just the frame which technically is not legal since the frame has the serial number. That's also why I can't just get stripped frames to whittle grips on.

I don't see an issue sending a frame myself, we can plead insanity. Call it machined parts or metal scrap. It's not a gun without the top end.
